I enjoyed the comment "but a fourth candidate has now thrown his hat into the ring".
The guidelines of the Lapeer County Clerk would not allow me to use "Ike" as my first name on the Ballot entry form. Immanuel is my given name but most folks call me Ike.

It is a sad state of affairs in Michigan, Nancy. The decision by the State Board of Canvassers to deny the petitions based on the size of the font is another demonstration of the loss of democracy in Michigan. Per the testimony at the hearing the print was size 14, bold, all caps as required. The printer has been successfully printing petitions for 40 years. Yet the republican members of the Board voted to deny what the over 203,000 citizens who signatures were verified by the Secretary of State are asking for - a vote. Rather ironic.

But why should we be surprised? To deny people their rights under the State Constitution is what Public Act 4 - Emergency Manager Law is all about. The governor appointments one person to make all decisions for a community or school district. Citizens votes for their local leaders doesn't matter. The action by the two republican members, one with a definite conflict of interest, of the Board have now taken the denial of democracy in Michigan to the next level.

I am not a member of a political party by choice. It would conflict with other aspects of my life which are important to me. But regardless of someone's political affiliation, or lack of, every citizen in Michigan should be outraged by the fact that two members of the State Board of Canvassers have denied voters their rights under the Michigan Constitution. Even if people don't agree with the repeal of PA 4, they should be concerned about this flagrant attack on the rights of people to demand a say in how the State operates. If not, then next time it might be an issue that they do care about but it may be too late. When they had a chance to demand that the Constitution be followed, they sat back and watched their rights trampled on and did nothing.

The Supervisor promised the airport board that he would go to the township board and get the airport meetings back to every month. But he didn't say a word at the township board meeting about any of this. For confirmation, see the minutes of the meeting, or the video on Lapeer Now.
