1200 jobs saved at Orion Assembly, previously scheduled for stand-by. This according to unnamed sources that say Orion will build GM’s next-generation subcompact. Should be announced officially today. Also expected: about 1000 jobs saved at GM’s Pontiac stamping plant, as they will make parts for the subcompact. Lots of tax breaks involved to win the work. There’s also word of a “significant jobs announcement” coming today from Governor Granholm and General Electric. Article here.
(Update: It would appear that GE plans to employ over 1100 people at a new manufacturing technology center to be located in Van Buren Township. Projects to include renewable energy, aircraft engines, and other.)
