where there’s smoke
Four departments were called out for a structure fire Friday at about 6:30 AM at this house on Blacks Corners Road south of Weyer. Imlay City responded with Almont, Attica and Goodland Townships assisting. A firefighter who lives just down the road heard the call and rousted the two occupants from the house without injury.
Firefighters got the house fire knocked out while the power line that started the problem lay burning and buzzing in the trench it seared through the ground. Power crews didn’t arrive until around 7:30 AM to cut power, after the house fire was out. The house appeared to be heavily damaged in the upper story. There had reportedly been trouble previously with the power line in April, but it had been fixed by the utility.
